SOUTHWEST STATES MUST REGULATE STUDENT HOUSING RENTS
The exploitation of students by landlords and accommodation agents across the Southwest has reached an alarming level. Many students are being forced to pay exorbitant rents, with some landlords demanding two to three years advance payment.
This has pushed thousands of students into overcrowded, unsafe accommodations far from their campuses, exposing them to security risks and affecting their academic performance.
We call on the Houses of Assembly in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti states to enact student-friendly tenancy laws and rent control measures immediately. Our students deserve safe, affordable, and dignified accommodation.
