NANS Southwest Halts Proposed Protest Over LAUTECH Students' Suspension, Awaits Management’s Final Decision
The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, wishes to inform the general public, Nigerian students, stakeholders, and members of the student movement that the proposed protest concerning the suspension of five students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has been placed on hold pending the outcome of ongoing engagements with the institution's management.
Following a series of press statements, consultations, and constructive engagements initiated by NANS Southwest, the management of LAUTECH has assured us that the matter will be presented before the University's Senate for review and consideration, with a view towards reaching a fair and just resolution regarding the affected students.
While NANS Southwest maintains its position that the suspension of the students was excessive and unfortunate, especially considering the prevailing realities confronting Nigerian students and the circumstances surrounding the matter, we also recognize the importance of dialogue, responsible leadership, and giving room for institutional processes to run their course.
Consequently, we call on all well-meaning student leaders, comrades, stakeholders, and particularly members of the LAUTECH student community who have demonstrated genuine concern and solidarity in this struggle, to remain calm, sheath their swords, and await the final verdict of the university management and Senate.
The student movement must always be guided by wisdom as much as courage. Our commitment remains the protection of students' rights and welfare, but we shall continue to pursue that objective through every legitimate and constructive avenue available.
NANS Southwest will continue to monitor developments closely and will not hesitate to take further action should the need arise. However, at this moment, we believe dialogue must be given a chance.
We appreciate all comrades and stakeholders who have stood firmly in defense of justice and the welfare of Nigerian students.
